WinCAM Announces Senior Scholarship Winners

Nearly every year, WinCAM gives out a scholarship award at the Winchester High School Senior Awards Ceremony. I say nearly, because some years we don’t feel as though there are students who have earned the honor. I’m happy to say that 2016 is a different story. Last night at WHS, WinCAM was happy to bestow the award and $500 scholarship to three very deserving seniors.

Scott Czeck and Andrew Termini are both members of the WHS Tech Crew. If you’ve been to WinCAM at all over the past three years, it’s a virtual certainty that you’ve run into one or both of them. Scott and Andrew have both done great volunteer work for WinCAM over the years and both have been so well respected and capable that they’ve been contracted for work on occasion. We say thanks to both of them for not only the work they did, but also the tireless efforts they made in expanding the Tech Crew and bringing more students into WinCAM.

Anna Abbanat is another WinCAM fixture. Anna joined WinCAM as a sophomore and has produced award-winning content ever since. Anna has the talent and energy needed to become successful in any field of study she chooses. We can only hope that she comes back to produce more programming during breaks.

I know I can speak for the rest of the staff when I say that we’re all very proud of all the young people that grace WinCAM with their presence, but these three deserved special recognition. If you see them, be sure to offer congratulations!

TECH UPDATE from SUZETTE

WinCAM has made exporting projects in Final Cut Pro X easier for our members! When you are ready to export your final project, you will see a folder called “WinCAM Export”. With a click of this button, a file for each destination in the bundle is output automatically.

This means FCPX will automatically create an MPEG-2 file, it will upload to WinCAM’s YouTube page and it will create a DVD all in one step. If you have any questions, please see a staff member.

LION KING in WINCHESTER

The cast and crew from the recent production of Lion King Kids at the Vinson-Owen Elementary School stopped by the WinCAM studio this week for a talkback session. The talented cast offered some small samples of their performance and answered questions about their experience with the show submitted by parents.

Thanks to all the kids who participated and special thanks to play director, Beth Weiner, who coordinated the special program. Our gratitude also goes out to WinCAM members Felicia Fung and Maryam Altaf who helped out with the production.

Look for the final program hitting the WinCAM airwaves in early June!

WinCAM & BRIO TEAM UP

WinCAM is pleased to announce that they are working with Brio Integrated Theatre and Nu Path Inc of Woburn on an internship for people with disabilities

According to their website, NuPath Inc. has been a leader in the human services arena for more than 40 years, providing a network of creative day services and residential options for people living with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and acquired brain injury. For their part, Brio says the following about their services: Brio teaches awareness of disabilities and the infinite potential that is imaginable through integrative workshops, productions, educational programs and community outreach.

WinCAM is very excited to be part of this venture. With the help of WinCAM members Margo Attaya, Sahar Ahmed, Aggie Jankowska and Chris Durham, our interns are learning new skills in a professional environment. Please help us welcome these four new members: Sebastian Chroscinski, Brian Stokes, Richard Rosenberger and David Ritchie.

PODCASTING EQUIPMENT UPGRADE

By now, I'm sure you're hooked on WinCAM's new podcast, Viewfinder. Well, you'll be happy to know that there are currently two new member-produced podcasts in production!

Be on the lookout for a podcast version of Heather Poduska's Thrive! Television show and Chris Durham and Katie Panniello have teamed up on a new podcast called Comic Talk. Look for episodes of these new shows in the coming weeks on the WinCAM Podcast Network

To make this experience even better, we're happy to announce that we've upgraded the podcasting equipment in studio B. We've purchased a Mackie ProFX mixer and five new Shure PGA27 cardiod microphones.

These components, along with a headphone amplifier and mic stands make for a great sounding production and a smooth, professional look. Getting started with your own podcast is easy! Just email David
